What Our Patients Are Saying
-
Shelby is the absolute best! I have seen her for years for general back pain and stress with great relief! When I was ready to start trying to conceive she was a wealth of knowledge and support from trying through my delivery! Her comfort and knowledge was especially appreciated as my third trimester started right when covid restrictions started. I recommend Shelby to everyone I know!

I can't recommend this group enough. They listen, engage and are the epitome of what consumer centric healthcare should be. Every visit is unique and customized to your current and long term needs and goals. The education and experience that Shelby has is unparalleled. And she has surrounded herself in this practice with people that she would use in her own healthcare journey. If you are looking for a practice to take your whole health into account, or even if you have a very specific goal, look no further!

I am so grateful that I found Shelby at Common Ground Wellness! My husband and I struggled with infertility for years and just had gone through a failed fresh IVF cycle. I decided to seek more natural ways to help with our next embryo transfer. After several sessions with Shelby before the transfer we were pregnant with our daughter! I continued treatment with Shelby for help with pregnancy symptoms like back pain and also for placenta prévia (which resolved with the help of acupuncture!). I also saw Shelby when we tried for our second and she helped us conceive our sweet little boy. I now have two children that I thought I would never have thanks to the compassionate and knowledgeable care of Shelby.

I believe the work I did with Shelby and Holly is what led to our pregnancy. I continued to work with them throughout my pregnancy for support. I had a very healthy pregnancy and delivered a very healthy baby girl. I cannot thank Shelby and Holly enough for the mental, emotional, and physical support they’ve provided me on this journey to motherhood.

I have been treated for headaches for over four years but have not been able to overcome the every three-day ordeal. Shelby VanCleve has been able to control not only my headaches but other pains in my neck, arms and legs. She has been a blessing to me because she restored the quality of life I had hoped for in my retirement.

What are acupuncture benefits and how can it help you? Used in China as a holistic system of medicine for over 3,000 years, acupuncture benefits nearly any human condition in some form or fashion. Acupuncture excels at getting things to move in the body, this improves circulation, inflammation and energy flow allowing your body to heal more efficiently.

Again, this depends on the condition being treated. But as a general guideline, we often start out at once per week until your symptoms stabilize. If you symptoms are severe, such as a pain level of 7 out of 10 or higher, we may suggest you come twice a week until the pain level decreases. Once your symptoms stabilize and you feel well from one treatment to the next, we decrease the frequency. If you are seeking support for low-level chronic issues, we often recommend every two weeks or once per month.

We try to use as few needles as possible to create the desired effect. If you seek treatment for only one complaint, you may have 6-10 needles. If you have multiple complaints that are long-standing, you may have upwards of 20 needles. But it is important to realize that acupuncture needles are smaller than any needle you have ever been poked with, so the sensation will be nothing like receiving a shot or getting a piercing. It is also much more gentle than dry needling, but often far more effective. It is usually a pleasant experience.

We are happy to provide you with a super-bill that you can submit to your insurance for reimbursement. Unfortunately, most insurance carriers in Kentucky do not cover acupuncture. Please check with your insurance before your first appointment to see if you are covered. If you are seeking treatment for a motor vehicle accident and have filed a claim, we can easily bill your insurance for your acupuncture treatment. However, we do not bill any personal health insurance plans in our office.

Empower your health journey with Louisville’s holistic wellness experts. Our acupuncturists were trained in Traditional Chinese Medicine. We have also received training in Tung (Korean) style, Tan style, Five Element, Japanese, Channel Theory, and Auricular acupuncture. Each practitioner utilizes their knowledge in a slightly different way, creating their own style in the treatment room. Sometimes it takes a couple treatments of trying different methods to determine which is the right for your body.
